Why I Started This Blog

There is just too much information around us. Every question you type into a search bar returns a hundred confident answers, and a surprising number of them are quietly shaped by something other than the truth - ads, affiliate deals, and algorithms that reward whatever keeps you clicking. Credibility gets baked in by ranking, not by whether the advice actually worked.

That is the problem I want to solve here. My goal is simple: give you the best possible shortcut to a problem I have already lived through, as easily as I can explain it.

The promise

Every article on this blog will be based on true trial and error - things I actually did, in my own home, with the mistakes left in. Not a rewrite of the top ten search results. Not a pitch dressed up as a guide.

I'll be upfront about money, too. At some point I'll add AdSense to help keep the lights on, because hosting and time aren't free. But I will not take direct payments to push mediocre products or services. If I recommend something, it's because I used it and it earned the spot - not because someone paid for it.

Who I am

I have a wife and two daughters, and we live in Ridgewood, New Jersey. We've been in Bergen County for about ten years now, long enough to have opinions about property taxes, snow removal, and where to get takeout on a Friday night.

I work in tech, but I'm not a computer scientist - I'm an engineer who can code. That turns out to be a useful mindset for this kind of blog: I like understanding how things actually work, I'm comfortable getting my hands dirty, and I'm reasonably handy around the house. I can also be counted on to overthink a decision as small as which takeout menu to order from on a weeknight.

That's really what this blog is: an engineer's weekend notebook, written down so someone else can skip the frustrating part.

What's coming

I already have a few stories lined up, all pulled straight from projects around the house:

Adding a kickstand to a kids' bike that didn't come with one.
Troubleshooting an automated pool cover when it stops behaving.
A DIY sprinkler system - planning, digging, and the parts that tripped me up.
The true cost behind a home solar system - the numbers nobody quotes upfront.
